Buena Vista, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, is a place many can only imagine. The area has a variety of shopping from practical items as well as arts and crafts. Buena Vista has so much to offer, with its new theatre and arts facility in Salida, and a wonderful library.

Buena Vista is among the main portals to recreation in the San Isabel National Forest boasting 1,109,782 acres and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area spreading out for 148 miles.

When the temperatures become colder the colors become vibrant; the aspens in the fall are great. This location is also popular for big game hunting. When the snow falls the beginning of the ski season is when the snow falls. Only moments from Buena Vista, Monarch Ski area can't be far behind. If cross country is what you prefer and you want to enjoy the high country, there are a wide variety of trails available. Ice fishing on frozen lakes and snowmobiling in the mountains are some other popular winter sports.
