The Olds West richness and diversity is exemplified by Poncha Springs, Colorado, located in Chaffee County. Poncha Springs offers a diversity of Homes and Land For Sale that will meet any budget or any dream. The Town of Poncha Springs rests in a beautiful valley with the scenic National Forest of San Isabel on all sides. The town refers to itself as the "Crossroads of the Rockies." This town is so pleasant; it gives you that Colorado feel and it is truly a crossroad to a variety of areas of Colorado. I'm fond of saying that it is possible to get to almost anywhere in Colorado from Poncha Springs by taking a reasonable but gorgeous ride that will take you through some of the loveliest areas you will ever see.

My two favorite things about Colorado and this area are the plethora of hot springs (there are 99 in close proximity) and the Spanish influence. The original name of the community was Poncho Springs (meaning cape and warmth). The town was officially changed the name to Poncha Springs in 1924.

A number of the buildings are historic from long ago and are still standing. Buildings such as the first cabin built in approximately 1860 owned by Bob Hendricks and Nat Rich and of course the renowned Hotel built in 1876, The Jackson Hotel built in 1876 with both still standing today. Built in 1883 was the original school house and it too is standing today. During the 1870's, with town being the stagecoach hub, visitors normally staying on for a spell would relax, enjoying the steaming springs or to soak in the mineral baths. In 1927 the City of Salida installed a pipe running to the Hot Springs pool in Salida from the steaming springs. The pool (which has just been remodeled) now had access to the hot water.

However, the historical significance is not the only draw of Poncha Springs. The Industrial Park being developed in Poncha Springs as well as the Poncha Springs Trails Plan, the River Trail, the Mailbox Trail and the Poncha Loop, illustrate the town's progressive and well organized attitude toward visitors and tourists and its promotion of business relocation.

You really must visit Poncha Springs, whether you are thinking of relocating here or you are just visiting and are interested in the vast hiking trails or the history of the Arkansas Valley, there are plenty of tourist attractions for you to explore.
