The Chaffee County Board of Realtors in Salida, Colorado which services the communities of Leadville, Twin Lakes, Buena Vista, Salida and Poncha Springs, has recently instituted the use of a Security Lock Box system. The system allows for real estate agents to access the keys to the Homes For Sale with the use of a device specifically assigned to them that opens the lock box at the home. The box can be attached to a door or anywhere it will not be so noticeable. It is coated in a protective cover and will not scratch doors.
The device is securely coded only allowing the owner of the device to use it. No one can operate the system without the codes. Upon any device opening a lock box, it is recorded which device gained access to the lock box with a notification being sent immediately to the listing agent who placed the lock box on the home for sale.
With the access being recorded and the listing agent being notified, the listing agent will know what agent has gained access. The agent can follow up on how the showing went and share the feedback with the owner. In the unlikely event a door is left unlocked or anything is out of place, the agent can see who was in the home.
In almost every case, the listing agent will already know the home will be shown as agents showing the home will call for an appointment, but in the unlikely case there hasn't been an appointment made; the listing agent will know everyone who entered the home through the lock box. This is a huge improvement in the marketing and security of a home beyond just passing out keys.
In addition the amount of time and driving an agent has to devote to picking up keys and then driving to return them is wasteful and environmentally irresponsible.
Not all the real estate offices in Leadville that represent the community they serve use the Lock Box system. With that in mind make sure when considering any Real Estate Company in representing you in the marketing of your home that they use the Lock Box system.
