Proposals for the future of the outdated airport, Stapleton, started to circulate in 1989 when plans were drawn up for the new Denver International Airport. Once the pointed peaks of DIA's Jeppeson Terminal were built in 1995, the valuable land that had previously been the location of Stapleton became the area of the "green plan," an outline for a sustainable community known throughout the world.
